Tree Lighting Friday in Sandown at Town Hall

SANDOWN – On Friday, Dec. 6, a tree lighting celebration comes back to town.
Town employees and volunteers, led by town administrator Lynne Blaisdell and office assistant Paula Gulla, have taken it upon themselves to bring some of that old-fashioned cheer back.

Groups like the Mothers Club and the Girl Scouts had previously held get-togethers this time of year when Christmas lights were hung, but those traditions have fallen by the wayside. Blaisdell recently obtained the selectmen’s permission to put lights on a tree or two in front of the town hall and use the time for a community outing, as previously reported by the Tri-Town Times. Helping to make the event a reality, the Sandown Lions Club donated $100 worth of lights.
On Friday, Dec. 6, at 6:30 p.m., a tree lighting ceremony will be held. Not only will the lights be ceremonially turned on, but on short notice Blaisdell and Gulla have managed to secure a visit from Santa Claus.
Carol singing, hot chocolate and maybe a word or two with St. Nick are planned.
Gulla said that while this year they’re starting off small, the hope is to make it an annual and growing tradition.
