Hampstead Middle School Pavilion Short of Funding

HAMPSTEAD – The proposed pavilion for students at Hampstead Middle School is still $2,000 shy of the needed donations to make it possible.
Organizers of the project are appealing to parents and businesses in Hampstead to help out.

The project was proposed at the end of the summer of 2012, when the Hampstead Parent Teacher and Student Association (PTSA) presented a proposal to build a 20-foot by 30-foot pavilion next to the parking lot and soccer field at the middle school. The estimated cost is $15,000. Part of the plan was for the PTSA to hold fundraisers and to seek donations.
Angie Gorham, who has been spearheading the project, said she had a quote from her brother, a builder, who has agreed to give her the plans. His estimate of $15,000 was without any volunteer help or donations of materials.
The pavilion would provide students with shade and cover for recess, for car pick up and for school events, as well as for outdoor lunches. It would also serve as an outdoor classroom.
Hampstead PTSA student members have been sponsoring a brick campaign to raise money for the project. The bricks will be used for a walkway to the pavilion.
Bricks can be purchased for individuals or a family, with a 4×8 brick costing $50 and an 8×8 brick costing $75. Two options exist: bricks with two lines of engraving and up to 16 characters per line, including spaces and punctuation, or a signature brick engraved with a signature and one line of engraving.
Businesses or groups can buy 12×12 bricks with engraved type of up to nine lines and a maximum of 20 characters each, for $150, and a 12×12 brick with a logo engraved and two lines of engraved type with a maximum of 20 characters each for $250.
Brick order forms are available from Gorham at ripgorham@comcast.net or in the HMS lobby.
“Our goal is to have the pavilion up by October,” Gorham said, noting that those wishing to make a contribution of money or material can contact her at “ripgorham@comcast.net or 620-1717. The group would like to hold ground breaking later this month.
