Insurance Refunds Due Timberlane and Hampstead School Districts

HAMPSTEAD – The Timberlane and Hampstead School Districts will be receiving a check soon from the New Hampshire Local Government Center (LGC). The LGC and its HealthTrust were ordered by the State Bureau of Securities Regulation Hearings Officer to reimburse the districts from the medical and dental insurance risk pools surplus.

The districts received notification of the amounts of the refund that must be paid to the participants prior to Sept. 1. Both districts qualified because they were HealthTrust members that participated in the 2010 medical and dental program and were still participants in those coverages in August 2012. They will receive their checks by Aug. 27.

The LGC refund calculation was made on each district’s proportional share of the total 2010 HealthTrust contributions. A challenge by several towns was denied by the courts, so the calculation made by the LGC will hold.

School Administrative Unit (SAU) 55 Business Manager George Stokinger and Human Resources Director Nancy Danahy said the Hampstead School District refund from the medical insurance surplus would be $81,818.28 while the dental insurance figure would be $17,372.48, for a total refund of $99,190.76.

Stokinger and Danahy said the Timberlane refund from the medical insurance surplus would be $238,051.02 and the amount coming from the dental insurance surplus would be $45,434.63, for a total reimbursement of $283,485.65.

SAU 55 comprises the Hampstead and Timberlane districts. Timberlane covers Sandown, Danville, Plaistow and Atkinson. The school districts will have the option of taking the return in the form of a check for the amount due or can opt to receive the return in the form of a contribution holiday, which deducts the value of the return from the districts’ cost of coverage.

A decision as to which option is preferred must be made and LGC notified in writing prior to Aug. 16.
