Town of Sandown Launches Revamped Website This Week

SANDOWN – The Town of Sandown plans to have its new website up and running this week. The site address will remain www.sandown.us.

Last October the board of selectmen decided to go with Virtual Town Hall to host its web page. The decision was made in light of the fact that the current website was not being maintained by any regular employee. Selectmen office assistant Paula Gulla was handling updating the website, though she said she didn’t have the training to handle it appropriately and had concerns about what would happen if the site should fail, as no town employee had the expertise to deal with that situation.

Gulla said at that time that the way the town was currently handling the website was inefficient and likely cost more than was necessary.  An employee training for the new website was planned for Wednesday, May 1. Town administrator Lynne Blaisdell told the board of selectmen about the training at its April 29 meeting, asking whether the selectmen wanted to close the office for a meeting scheduled by Virtual Town Hall that Wednesday morning. The selectmen gave the OK to open the office late and close early in light of ongoing trainings throughout the day.

“It looks really good,” said Blaisdell of the new website. “They’ve done a really good job.” Blaisdell added that the web pages will be evolving regularly. Gulla has been instrumental in setting up the new site, said Blaisdell. The service costs about $2,000 per year after a $4,000 start-up expense. Hosting was put out to bid and selectmen entertained a representative from Virtual Town Hall for a presentation prior to awarding the bid.

In other business:
The board heard from Jared Magoon on an Eagle Scout project he has planned. Magoon wants to create and install a granite Sandown marker in town. He presented the board with information on the project and suggested areas where the marker could go.

The selectmen were in favor of the work and said they would work with Magoon to find a suitable area and with any other help he might need.
