Plaistow Interested in Hampstead Parcel

HAMPSTEAD – While the Conservation Commis- sion could not conduct business because it lacked a quorum, members dis- cussed the Plaistow Town Forest Committee request for information about a piece of Town-owned property that overlaps that forest.

At the meeting Wednesday, Feb. 20, recording secretary Sally Theriault said she had been contacted by Phil Auger about the parcel and he had asked to be put on the Board of Selectmen’s agenda in March to discuss Plaistow’s interest in acquiring the land.

Theriault said the selectmen would have to determine how the town acquired the property, and that would tell them what, if anything, they could do with the land. Then they would have to decide what they wanted to do. Commission member David Treat asked that The- riault notify Conservation Commission members of the meeting between Auger and the selectmen so Con- servation members could attend.

Treat also said the commission had received a request from a non-resident to tap trees in the Town Forest for maple syrup. The consensus was there were too many unanswered ques- tions surrounding this request and it would be unwise to grant it. The commission asked anyone with suggestions for events in the Outside in Hampstead Program to contact Linda Ross at 329-6135.
