Nutfield Editor Takes First Prizes in Communications Contest

Nutfield Publishing editor Leslie O’Donnell has received two first-place awards in the National Federation of Press Women’s At-Large Communications Contest.

Her winning entries now go on to national judging.

She received first place in the editorial category for “Equal Pay,” published Nov. 21, 2013 in the Tri-Town Times and concerning pay for Chester Fire’s on-call firefighters; and first place in “publication edited by entrant,” for two editions of the Nutfield News.

Nutfield Editor Wins National Award for Editorial Writing

Nutfield Publishing editor Leslie O’Donnell received a first-place award in editorial writing for non-daily newspapers in the National Federation of Press Women’s (NFPW) 2010 Communications Contest.

The judges called the editorial “a strong piece” and termed it “good sleuth work.”
O’Donnell, who is editor of Nutfield Publishing’s three newspapers, the Londonderry Times, Nutfield News, and Tri-Town Times, received her award at the NFPW’s national convention at the Union League Club in Chicago last weekend.

This is her fifth NFPW first-place award for editorial writing; the other awards were in 2001, 1997, 1995, and 1993.

Editor Receives National Award

Nutfield Publishing editor Leslie O’Donnell received a first-place award in editorial writing for non-daily newspapers in the National Federation of Press Women’s (NFPW) 2010 Communications Contest.

She received the award from NFPW President Marsha Shuler of Louisiana at the Communications Contest banquet, held at the organization´s annual conference in San Antonio, Texas on Sept. 12.

The judge´s comments describe the Nutfield News as “a good mix of hard news, features, sports and photos. Your staffers must work pretty hard to produce this much original copy on a weekly basis. Keep up the good work.”

O´Donnell has been the editor of Nutfield Publishing´s three newspapers – the Londonderry Times, Nutfield News, and Tri-Town Times – for 2-1/2 years.

For the second year in a row, Nutfield Publishing editor Leslie O’Donnell has received an award in the Suburban Newspapers of America Editorial Contest.

She received a second place in the 2008 contest’s Best Arts and Entertainment Writing – Feature category for an article she wrote in the Nutfield News titled “Art and Friendship Go Hand in Hand for Derry Area Artists.”

O’Donnell is editor of Nutfield Publishing’s three newspapers – Londonderry Times, Nutfield News and Tri-Town Times.

The contest winners were announced at the SNA Spring Publishers’ Conference last week in Tampa, Fla. Judging of the thousands of entries was done by the Journalism Department faculty of Loyola University Chicago.

Nutfield News Recognized for General Excellence

The Nutfield News received third place in the 2008 Vic Jose General Excellence Awards, presented recently at the Independent Free Papers of America conference in Seattle, Wash.

Nutfield News covers the town of Derry, and has been in operation for four years. It is part of the Londonderry-based Nutfield Publishing, which also publishes the Londonderry Times and the Tri-Town Times and is owned by Deb and Chris Paul.

The general excellence award evaluates newspapers on appearance and photography as well as content. Leslie O’Donnell is editor of all three Nutfield Publishing newspapers.

Editor Wins National Award

Nutfield Publishing editor Leslie O´Donnell recently received a first-place award in the Best Editorial Writing category of the 2007 Suburban Newspapers of America Editorial Contest.
The award was presented last month at the Spring Publishers´ Conference in Florida.

O´Donnell´s winning collection of three editorials were “Change the Tune,” written about the arguments among Derry town councilors; “They Shoot Goats, Don´t They?” written about last year´s incidents of Londonderry police shooting wandering goats; and “Now´s the Time,” concerning the need for towns to establish an ethics commission.

O´Donnell, who joined Nutfield Publishing in November 2006, is editor of the company´s three free weeklies: Londonderry Times, Nutfield News and Tri-Town Times. She lives in Raymond.

Nutfield Publishing Writers Win Two National Awards

Nutfield Publishing received two awards at last week´s Independent Free Papers of America (IFPA) editorial contest.
Joe Paradis, a columnist with the Londonderry Times, took first place in the Personal Column category for his piece titled “You Just Wait,” published May 10.

And Nutfield Publishing editor Leslie O´Donnell won second place in the Editorial category for her Nutfield News editorial titled “Change the Tune,” which addressed the behavior of the Derry Town Council.

The awards were presented at the IFPA conference, held in conjunction with the Free Community Papers of New England (FCPNE) at the Hyatt Harborside in Boston last week. Debra Paul, publisher of Nutfield Publishing, is a representative on the FCPNE board.
