Kyle Pedrick, 21, of Londonderry was injured when he lost control of the 2004 Volkswagen GTI he was driving. The accident occurred when he was traveling west on Litchfield Road near Kelly Road on Thursday, Aug. 1.
“Mr. Pedrick was on a stretch of Litchfield Road that had been repaved last year. Sergeant Adam Dyer determined that speed was a factor in the incident. There was no presence of alcohol or drugs indicated,” Londonderry Police Lt. Kevin Cavallaro said.
Cavallaro said Pedrick left the road and hit a pole and a stone wall, and the vehicle rolled over.
“It has been erroneously reported (in other media) that Pedrick was ejected from the vehicle,” he said. “What happened was that a Good Samaritan reached Pedrick and pulled him from the vehicle, and we think a passerby saw Pedrick on the road and assumed that he had been ejected, but that was not the case.”
Cavallaro said Pedrick was conscious, alert and talking when police arrived but that he had “an obvious head injury.” He was flown via Medflight to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. According to Londonderry Fire Battalion Chief Fred Heinrich, arrangements were made for Pedrick to be flown to the Boston hospital via a DHART (Dartmouth-Hitchcock Advanced Response Team) Medflight. Pedrick was transported by ambulance to Manchester-Boston Regional Airport to the DHART hangar and transported from the hangar to Beth Israel hospital by helicopter.
